Alex and Andrew are getting married this September!
They decided to have their engagement pictures done by the playground near Soldiers Field in Rochester MN (because Alex loves playground! In fact, Andrew proposed to her in one!), then we moved on to the very popular Plummer House.
Here are a few teasers from their session – we had fun!
I love that they have the same smile
So sweet I love those pink flowers in the background. The nice thing about the Plummer House is that, they always have different flowers blooming at any given time (okay, maybe not in the winter time…). I decided on a more of a vintage/desaturated look because I think it goes with the mood of the image.
All I did was ask them to kiss
I am designing their engagement guestbook right now, and will post it later once it’s ready!
Photographers and poets – sounds like it’d be something fun to do!
CALL FOR PHOTOGRAPHY:
Crossings is organizing a October 2008 exhibition with the theme
“Poetography IV” Deadline: Monday, July 28, 2008
Do you have a photograph that’s just too good to keep to yourself? A snapshot of life that could inspire a poem, fairy tale or even a legend? Crossings invites photographers of all abilities – from the professional to the family-vacationing mom and pop – to participate in the fourth annual Poetography show in October. This juried photographic exhibition will feature original photographs used to later inspire poetry.
Photographs will be chosen for their range of creativity – photographers are challenged to go beyond the obvious! We encourage playful, quirky, layered and hands-on images – we’re looking for inspirations.
We’re not looking for the technically perfect, polished photograph. We want the interesting and the untold stories. Does the photo seem unfinished? Make you think twice? Look beyond what you are seeing? Create more questions than answers? Could it inspire a poet? Perhaps your subject is not breathtakingly beautiful, but breathtakingly odd and memorable. Send us those images.
Photographs may be color or black and white. Both film and digital photographs are acceptable. Manipulation of the image is acceptable but not required. All works must be the original works of the photographer and must be for sale.
Now I did NOT photograph these images, and have no idea who did… got it from a facebook forward or something… but the great weather we’d been having lately made me think of these images
Sorry for not writing more… been busy editing a few sessions so should be able to post some images soon!
And isn’t it wonderful that the weather is finally nice for a change! It makes such a difference when we get up and the sun is shinning outside… and not gloomy like we had for the past 6 months! Ummm to be able to just go lay down outside and nap… remind me back in uni (i.e. college… we call it uni, short for univeristy, in Australia) days… the good old times.
Met a couple of new people in the past week and I’m very excited! Will talk more about them soon.
Justin (hubby) and I were at Sargents on 2nd the other day and we bumped into the MOB (i.e., the mother of the bride, for those of you not familiar with wedding lingo!) I photographed back in 2006. Actually the MOB saw us and recognized us and came over to say hi. I’m very glad she did (Phew! They still love their images ) ! it was great to see her and hear what the couple was up to! The wedding was at the Plummer House and I loved how personal and intimate it was (it was a relatively small wedding, since the Plummer House restricts the number of guests they could fit inside for the reception. The ballroom upstairs can no longer be used). Every so often, I will also see the parents of the seniors I have photographed, and it always made me happy to hear what their sons/daughters are up to. One thing I am very grateful that my photography business has brought me is the different people I get to meet and they have all been so very nice. I really do mean it and am not just saying it – even Justin (whose parents were in retail for many years) commented how lucky I am that all my clients are such great people! <<Justin doesn’t photograph, but he helps me carry heavy stuff and is my reflector boy >>
Sadly though, one couple I photographed last year is moving out of Rochester and they are such a fun couple! I wish them the very best!
I have also been brainstorming what I will do with this blog… I have a few ideas and you will soon see! If you have any suggestions, feel free to leave a comment or email me!

–Randy Pausch
Randy Pausch is a computer professor at Carnegie Mellon University who is bravely fighting pancreatic cancer. I watched Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture on youtube a while ago, and was excited to hear that a book was coming out. Finally got to read it last week, and I couldn’t put it down. A very inspirational book. While some of the materials were mentioned in the video, there are other little stories in the book. How I wish I had had a professor like so!
My heart goes out to his family especially his 3 young children. Randy updated his prgressed on his website here, and the latest post ( 5/20/08 ) brought not very good news
Today I saw two middle-aged men came out of the Mayo Clinic. One was crying while the other kept patting his shoulder. While I don’t know their story, I could only imagine.

For most of us, $25 isn’t a lot of money… we probably pay that much when we eat out, probably spend more than that on clothes, or shoes, or makeup, or…
Today I sent $25 on something worthwhile.
I first heard about Kiva when I was reading an article online. I was very interested in the concept, especially since I am a small business owner. The repayment rate is very high — not that I really would have been worried or upset if they didn’t pay back — but when they do pay back, I can spend that $25 on another person.
The loan I chose to give was to Andrea De Los & Santos De Los in Mexico. They are hoping the $1200 loan they are requesting can help build an extra room to their house as it is very crowded. While most of the loans requested on Kiva are for small businesses, there are some for constructions. Why did I choose them?
· I went on an educational trip with Augsburg College’s Global Center in 2006 to Mexico and we met some very lovely people there. One family we met really made an impression on me — they had poor living conditions and yet they were so welcoming and so humbled. They kept apologizing that they couldn’t provide us with more. They had a little girl who wants to be a doctor one day, and yet it is a struggle for the family to get her school supplies. So Andrea and Santos’ story reminded me of this family.
· This family has 9 more days to get the amount needed, and they had the shortest amount of time left to get the total amount of their loan.
· They just want to provide a home for their family. What parents wouldn’t want that for their kids?
Just search for “Christa Butler” and you should find me – my current avatar is that of my husband and I. Just let me know how you found me! I’d been uploading some images I took to the facebook gallery, and will be posting more in the future.
Since I’ve lived in 2 other places before coming to the US (Hong Kong and Melbourne, Australia), I’m SO glad to have found some old friends through facebook. Some I hadn’t seen or talked to for nearly 20 years… ha, and they still look the same!
Some of my photography clients/models are also on facebook, so it’s great that when I upload their photos there, they can easily share with their friends!
